“When they go low, we go high.” These words spoken by our magnificent first lady became the unofficial mantra of the Democratic campaign for 2017. It’s meaning—to fly far above the fray, dust the dirt off your shoulders, and to not grovel with the swine of the earth. However, there’s a missing part to this statement. […]
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to honor the dearly departed Nicki Minaj’s rap career. After seven days of brain damage, Nicki Minaj’s rap career went on to glory. Let’s celebrate her run as the Queen of Rap before her career transitions on to pop stardom Glory Greens with Iggy Azalea’s.
Last year was the year all of the world’s beloved was like, “Yo, I’m out.” The Ls we took include losing Prince, Muhammed Ali and of course, America. 2017 was with the shits too. George Michael saw the foolishness that was coming and decided to BREXIT. There was no reason to not think that there […]
Does 45 need prayers? Yes. Do I need to pray for him? Eh…I guess. Prayer warriors are being solicited right now for a prayer service for 45. But somehow, I don’t think a prayer circle will change the heart of a 70-year-old fart set in his ways. Maybe a deliverance service? Yet, I’m sure VP […]
Say it with me, Donald Trump is our next president. Give yourself five seconds to digest and accept that. Now, I know, your immediate reaction was to run for the Canadian border. Christmas music is like eggnog. The thought of slowly cooking egg yolks, milk and sugar may sound noxious, but bring me some warm, salmonella-infested milk and figgy pudding (whatever the heck that is), and my Christmas spirit is high. Yet, listening to the tritest Christmas song on the radio ad nauseam is bound to turn […]
The concept of the black barbershop being the center of black male-bonding is a popular mantra within black culture. This phenomenon has been captured through pop culture through the Barbershop movie series and even news segments where news anchors frivolously try to understand Black folk within a 5-minute segment. You want to know what’s happening […]
N__s is out here really hurt for Issa. And I’m not sure why. Beware that the below is an assessment of the characters’ Issa (Issa Rae, no relation to LisaRaye) and Lawrence (Jay Ellis) from HBO’s phenomenal Insecure. Just to give you a brief background, she cheated. Issa cheated. And she cheated on a good […]
Dear Colin Kaepernick, I recently watched a show called Queen Sugar on OWN, Oprah’s channel. Have you heard of it? It’s awesome! Anyway, there’s a character on that show that shows the complexity of activism in a modern world. Nova Bordelon, played by Rutina Wesley, is the eldest of her siblings and fits into all […]
I attended a concert last month. Let me rephrase that. I went to participate in an experience last month. A joyous experience. There were puppets exclaiming “you don’t want no problems big fella” while also proclaiming “how great is our God” all within a two-hour time span. That experience was #blackboyjoy.
